Industrial Lighting Enquiry Checklist: What to Send — illustrative cover

Example article for layout testing. Cover image is an illustration, not a product specification.

A useful industrial lighting enquiry starts with the work area, mounting conditions and required lighting outcome—not just a preferred wattage. A short project brief helps a supplier compare suitable luminaires and identify missing information before issuing a quotation.

What should an industrial lighting enquiry include?

Project input What to share
Space and task Room dimensions, layout drawings and the work performed.
Mounting Installation height, available mounting points and obstructions.
Environment Indoor or outdoor location, moisture, dust and known ambient conditions.
Electrical supply Supply details confirmed by the project electrical team and control requirements.
Procurement Quantity, delivery location and project schedule.

Ask for the evidence behind the proposal

Request the datasheet for the exact proposed model and, where a lighting calculation is required, the corresponding photometric file. A luminaire’s total light output does not by itself show how evenly the working area will be illuminated. Layout, beam distribution and mounting position also matter.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s commercial and industrial LED purchasing guidance is a useful reference for understanding performance information. Its federal purchasing requirements should not be treated as universal project requirements.

Flag special conditions early

If the location is classified as hazardous, provide the project team’s classification and required certification documents. Do not assume that ordinary industrial lighting is suitable for an explosive atmosphere.

Use this checklist as a starting point when you send your lighting project requirements to TORMIN. Final selection should follow the site design and the exact product documentation.
